Frog and Toad 2

Building Fluency Through Reader’s Theatre

Students working on backgrounds for reader’s theatre performances.

After reading the book Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel, students will build their fluency by participating in a reader’s theatre production of one of the stories from the book. Each small group will be given a script for one of the stories. They will work each day to read in the voices of the characters.  Students will practice with their group for approximately 10 – 15 minutes a day for 3 – 4 days. Students will also be creating a large background drawing that will hang behind them when they perform their reader’s theatre story. There will be additional time on 2 of these days to create their background. On the final day, students will be videotaped performing their reader’s theatre production. Students will have the opportunity to view their taped performance.
